Ecology

JBA’s Environment Division offers a wide range of environmental, ecological and hydro-ecological services.  Partnering with our Clients, our vision is to provide a high quality service that is practical, sustainable and professionally accredited. All of our ecology team are members of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM). JBA ecologists are experienced in working as part of project teams with engineers, hydrologists, hydrogeologists, environmental scientists and others.

We undertake Ecological Appraisals, Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) and ecological aspects of Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIAR) of development projects. We also provide Appropriate Assessment services as required under the Habitats Directive, including Screening for Appropriate Assessment and Natura Impact Statements.

We carry out consultation with NPWS, Inland Fisheries and other stakeholders where required. We obtain Derogation Licences when needed for protected species such as badger, bat, crayfish and otter.

JBA ecologists have experience in assessing and managing projects in relation to Natura 2000 sites and provide professional training to competent authorities including EPA, local authorities and government departments on Appropriate Assessment including EU Case Law.

Our in-house specialist staff also provide a number of environmental data management solutions based on Geographical Information Systems.
JBA routinely prepares detailed mitigation and habitat enhancement proposals, tailored to meet site and species specific requirements including:

  • Species capture and translocation
  • Site supervision

We offer comprehensive site management capabilities. Our site staff oversee the implementation of mitigation and enhancement proposals and provide Ecological Clerk of Works services to our clients.
