Land Use Surveyor – Fixed Term Contract

JBA Consulting have been successful in being appointed to carry out LUCAS throughout Ireland in the summer of 2022. The purpose of LUCAS is to collect data on land cover / land use and agri-environmental data by the field observation of thousands of survey points.  All the observations will be recorded via the use of a digital field data collection system, with information then being input into the LUCAS Data Management Tool software for quality control and processing. The survey will also incorporate specialist modules of soil sampling at one in ten locations, and a grassland survey of a selected points.

The role:

JBA are therefore looking to employ on Fixed Term Contracts an adequate number of qualified (minimum of a secondary degree or equivalent) surveyors with education in geography, environmental sciences, biology, agriculture or another relevant field. We are looking for suitable staff located throughout the Republic of Ireland. Employment will start in April or May 2022, with full training being provided, and will finish in September 2022. The role is fully field based. The intension is to allocate each surveyor with survey points close to their normal place of residence, initially working near home and then gradually travelling further afield, and then staying away from home, as required. 

Working outside in variable weather will sometimes be required. There may be the need to work outside normal working hours, stay away from home during the week and the ability to adapt to varied and different working environments is important.  Site work will involve lone working under a Safe System of Work.

Candidates must have the following skills and experience:

  • Suitably qualified, as described above.
  • Able to work alone on own initiative.
  • Previous field work experience.
  • Comfortable using computers and web-based applications.
  • Able to undertake fieldwork every day.
  • Flexibility to work/stay away from home when required.
  • Full licence to allow for driving a private vehicle in the Republic of Ireland.

You will be able to demonstrate that you are able to:

  • Display a positive attitude towards Health & Safety.
  • Follow set procedures and take instructions from more senior members of the team.
  • Take responsibility for own work. 
  • Work independently and problem solve when needed.
  • Observe good time keeping and be reliable.
  • Communicate clearly, both verbal and written.
  • Communicate professionally with the public.

These roles are based across Ireland and are fully field based.
