CIWEM Presentation: CLIMATE CHANGE IN IRELAND: A COASTAL PERSPECTIVE

On Wednesday evening (3rd of March) @17:00  CIWEM NI/ROI are hosting a presentation on CLIMATE CHANGE IN IRELAND: A COASTAL PERSPECTIVE. Speakers on the evening will include Jonathan Cooper, MD of JBA Consulting.  Jonathan will be discussing how the planning system in the Republic of Ireland is currently responding to coastal climate change drivers and how future uncertainties in coastal climates are being dealt with.

This builds on a wide variety of work being undertaken by JBA's strategic flood management team who are currently working with local authorities in Dublin, Dún Laoghaire, Clare, Galway, Wicklow, Kilkenny and Waterford, amongst others, to prepare or review and update the Strategic Flood Risk Assessments to support the County or City Development Plans.  One of the key areas of work within the SFRA is consideration of how climate change should be taken into account at both Plan Making and Development Management.  As sea level rise becomes better understood and more of a certainty, and recent projections point to a higher level rise being likely, the need for guidance in the management of such risks is becoming more pressing, as is the need to address wave overtopping risks rather than just the traditional still water sea levels.

The CIWEM NI/CIWEM ROI joint event is free to attend but booking is essential: https://www.ciwem.org/events/climate-emergency-in-ireland-a-coastal-perspective-webinar
