This course on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) will cover the legislative background to EIA, including the most recent changes under both the 2014 EIA Directive and the 2018 European Union (Planning and Development) (Environmental Impact Assessment) Regulations.  We will also look at the preparation of EIR Reports, covering both the screening and scoping stages of assessment.  Mitigation measures, including monitoring and cumulative impacts, will be discussed.  We will also look at the importance of consultation, including the requirements laid out under the Aarhaus Convention.  The course will be supported with examples from case law with a focus on discussion and practical exercises.

The course will target  consultants and environmental managers who have responsibilities for preparing or project managing EIARs.  It would also be suitable for representatives of statutory bodies who need to review/comment upon EIARs.
