Technical Director - Flood Risk Management

Flood Risk Management is an exciting fusion of engineering, environmental, policy setting and planning disciplines.  From writing the Flood Risk Management Planning Guidelines for DoEHLG and OPW to restoring canals, from delivery of Green Infrastructure Strategies to designing the flood risk measures for Cork, JBA has built up an enviable position in the market as a leader and innovator in this field.

We are looking to expand our team and our professional offering, and as a result are seeking a Senior Flood Risk Professional to be based in either our Dublin or Limerick offices to drive and expand the range of services delivered across Ireland. The role will ideally suit an enthusiastic and dedicated flood risk professional who wishes to deliver some of the most interesting and challenging flood risk projects in Ireland, and who can support our continued growth in flood risk management, engineering and environmental management.

You will manage and contribute to the delivery of a broad variety of flood risk management and environmental projects for a range of state bodies and private sector clients. Projects may include scheme appraisals, flood mapping projects, drainage studies, R&D studies, and Flood Risk Assessments.  Expert witness work is in high demand for JBA staff.

Qualifications and Experience

We are looking for hard working, well organised, motivated, enthusiastic, flexible individuals who have the effective communication skills to lead a team, liaise with clients and grow our services.

The ideal candidate will have an excellent knowledge of flood risk management practices in Ireland, but may have trained in another jurisdiction.  You will also have the ability for innovative thinking and a strong analytical and problem solving background. The candidate should have experience as PSDP and have undertaken construction works under the Public Procurement Contracts.  An established client portfolio is essential.

The position will have a key business development role, helping and leading growth in this market sector. We are therefore looking for someone who can:

  • manage the delivery of complex flood risk and water management projects
  • have a clear technical ability that is current and respected by clients
  • understand the statutory and regulatory framework for flood risk management in Ireland and interpret this for clients into sound professional advice
  • liaise will clients and partners throughout the public and private sector
  • contribute new skills and experiences to JBA, and challenge established ideas
  • mentor and coach junior staff
  • prepare proposals and responses to tender opportunities
  • direct JBA specialist teams in supporting clients’ projects
  • identify skill gaps, training needs and new staff requirements to ensure we grow this sector
  • present to clients and professional groups at conferences

Applicants should have a relevant degree(s) environmental management or engineering and have a respected technical background.  Chartered status is important to JBA and the ideal candidate will be expected to be chartered through a relevant institution.
